The stylish Cherokee comes in three versions: the Jeep Cherokee 2.5 Sport, Cherokee 4.0 Limited and the flagship of Jeep's UK line-up - the Jeep Cherokee Limited SE. The Limited and SE models have a 4.0-litre six-cylinder engine, automatic transmission and a long list of luxury equipment in their class-leading standard specification.
Prices of these highly-competitive newcomers will begin at £15,995 for the Jeep Cherokee 2.5 Sport and rise to £18,995 for the superbly-equipped Cherokee 4.0 Limited, which is expected to be Jeep's biggest seller in the UK.
The Jeep® Cherokee, the only volume production vehicle to be built in right-hand drive for export to the UK by a North American car manufacturer, is now available in the UK.
The Jeep Cherokee Limited SE - which has an exclusive high-quality leather and wood trim interior - costs £21,745. The Jeep Cherokee Limited has a formidable list of standard equipment, including items which cost extra on many rival 4x4 vehicles - or are not even available. It includes:
  • Four-speed automatic transmission with power/economy settings
  • Selectable 2WD/full-time 4WD/part-time 4WD Selec-Trac system
  • Air conditioning
  • Cruise control
  • ABS brakes
  • Alloy wheels
  • Electrically operated windows
  • Electrically operated and heated door mirrors
  • Six-way electrically adjusted front seats
  • Remote control central door locking
  • Power steering
  • Tilt adjustable steering wheel
  • Stereo radio/cassette player with RDS, six speakers and electric aerial
  • Integral adjustable roof rack
The Jeep Cherokee 2.5 Sport - which will arrive in the UK in Spring - has a five-speed manual gearbox, power windows, power mirrors, power steering, remote control central locking, tilt-adjustable steering wheel, alloy wheels, rear wash/wipe, integral roof rack plus stereo radio/cassette player with four speakers and an electric aerial.
The Jeep Cherokee models, which have a light but ultra-strong uniframe construction for safety and durability, utilise two special Jeep selectable four-wheel drive systems - Selec-Trac on the Limited and SE and Command-Trac on the Sport model. Both feature "shift on the fly" capability, so the mode can be changed without stopping the vehicle.
Selec-Trac gives the choice of two-wheel drive or full-time four-wheel drive for safer handling in wet or hazardous on-road conditions. For off-road driving, part-time four-wheel drive is available with high or low range gear ratios.
The Jeep Cherokee Limited SE has all of the above equipment plus leather upholstery and a special leather and wood trim interior specification.
While having remarkable class-leading ability off-road, the Jeep Cherokee also outperforms the competition on the road. It has taut handling, an excellent ride and - due to a small turning circle and compact body - is probably the most manageable 4x4 vehicle in its class.
The Command-Trac system provides two-wheel drive for on-road use and both high and low ratio four-wheel drive for off-road conditions.
The Jeep Cherokee models employ a unique Quadra-link front suspension system, anti-roll bars and dual action gas charged shock absorbers. These ensure superb road holding, prevent body roll on cornering - a characteristic of many other 4x4 vehicles - and improve steering response. Locating arms and coil springs provide maximum dynamic control.
The ABS anti-lock braking system fitted to the Jeep Cherokee Limited and SE prevents brake lock-up and provides improved stability and steering ability during heavy braking.
The multi-point sequential fuel-injected 4.0-litre engine of the Jeep Cherokee Limited and SE models produces 184 bhp at 4750 rpm and 214 lb ft of torque at 3950 rpm. It not only outperforms rival 4x4 models but also many family saloons and estate cars, with a 0-60 mph acceleration time of nine and a half seconds and top speed of 112 mph.
The 2.5-litre Sport also utilises multi-point fuel injection and produces 122 bhp at 5300 rpm and 148 lb ft of torque at 3200 rpm. This model has a top speed of 103 mph and a 0-60 mph time of just 12.1 seconds.

All Jeep models have catalytic converters for reduced exhaust emissions and run exclusively on unleaded petrol.
The five-door, five-seat Cherokee is extremely versatile and provides a large flat load area of 35.7 cu ft which can be doubled to 71.8 cu ft by folding the rear seat. Loading is easy due to the low sill.
All Cherokees are covered by the unique Jeep Privilege Service, which provides a three-year or 60,000-mile warranty, 12 months roadside assistance and competitive insurance rates.
